Near Mullaghmore, in County Sligo, once owned by Prince Philip’s uncle, Lord Louis Mountbatten; grandson of Queen Victoria, retired Admiral of the Fleet, one time Commander of Allied Forces in Southeast Asia, last Viceroy of India, First Sea Lord, and Earl of Burma. Blown up in his boat in 1979 by the IRA, God rest the old duffer, he probably deserved it after years of carrying the white man’s burden in Asia.
It’s now owned by Clones Beef Baron, Hugh Tunney. Ben Bulben in the background.

and nearby…

Under bare Ben Bulben’s head
In Drumcliff churchyard Yeats is laid.
An ancestor was rector there
Long years ago, a church stands near,
By the road an ancient cross.
No marble, no conventional phrase;
On limestone quarried near the spot
By his command these words are cut:
Cast a cold eye
On life, on death.
Horseman pass by!

Yeats’s (or somebody’s, there’s some controversy) body was moved here from Roquebrune in the South of France. Apparently he was never photographed smiling, possibly because he didn’t have any teeth.
